The Ministry of Labour & Employment announced a significant settlement for contract workers at Ultratech Cement's Baga plant in Himachal Pradesh, achieved through conciliation efforts by the Deputy Chief Labour Commissioner (Central), Chandigarh. The settlement, reached on July 10, 2026, will benefit approximately 284 contract workers with an estimated financial implication of ₹15 crore over a five-year period.
The agreement addresses multiple welfare and service-related issues, including a wage increase of ₹6,000 per month in the first year, establishment of promotion policy provisions, supply of woolen jackets, and ensuring timely payment of statutory bonus. These measures significantly improve the service conditions and social security of the workers at the cement plant.
During the conciliation proceedings, the management was sensitized about its statutory obligations regarding workers' welfare, fair service conditions, and compliance with labor laws. The management, represented by the Assistant Vice President (HR) of Ultratech Cement Works Plant, assured continued commitment to workforce welfare and adherence to statutory provisions. The settlement was reached with the active cooperation of both Lal Jhanda Cement Plant Workers Union, Baga (CITU) and Ultratech Cement Kamgar Sangh, Baga (BMS), representing the workers' interests.
The Chief Labour Commissioner (Central) machinery emphasized the importance of maintaining harmonious industrial relations through constructive dialogue and timely implementation of welfare measures, marking this settlement as a breakthrough in ensuring long-term industrial harmony at the plant.
