Overview
WiseTech Global (ASX:WTC) shares fell 13% to A$37.68 on 19 August 2026, marking the steepest one‑day decline since June, while the S&P/ASX 200 index was largely unchanged. The drop followed the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) executing a search warrant at WiseTech’s offices to obtain documents and electronic data as part of an investigation; the ACCC has not disclosed the specific subject of the warrant.
Regulatory Background
In January 2024 the ACCC had accepted a court‑enforceable undertaking from WiseTech requiring the divestiture of Expedient, a logistics software business acquired through the e2open purchase, after concluding that WiseTech held substantial market power in Australian logistics software and that the acquisition eliminated a key competitor to its CargoWise platform, potentially enabling price increases or reduced service quality. The earlier enforcement investigation was resolved through that divestment undertaking.
Governance Issues
Founder Richard White became the focus of governance scrutiny beginning in October 2024 when a civil dispute with a former intimate partner and related media allegations about his personal conduct were made public. White stepped down as CEO at that time, remained a consultant, and returned as executive chair in February 2025. An independent review cleared several of the allegations, but a subsequent review found that some of White’s disclosures to the board regarding a personal relationship were inaccurate, incomplete and misleading; White accepted those findings. He was also examined by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission and the Australian Federal Police for alleged share‑trading activity, though no charges had been announced.
On 22 June 2026 WiseTech shares plunged more than 18% after media reports that the AFP was investigating White for allegedly exploiting a woman’s immigration status for sexual gain and providing false information on a visa application. White resigned as executive chair in July 2026, and Raelene Murphy was appointed independent chair, although White remained involved with the company.
Market Impact
The combination of the ACCC search warrant and the resurfacing of White‑related governance concerns triggered the 13% share decline, adding a fresh regulatory headache to a business already under heightened investor scrutiny.
