The 19th Mumbai International Film Festival (MIFF) commenced on June 15, 2026, with an opening ceremony at Ravindra Natya Mandir in Mumbai. Organized by the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, MIFF is described as South Asia's oldest and largest festival dedicated to non-feature films, specifically documentary, short fiction, animation, and AI-generated films. The event serves as a platform bringing together filmmakers, industry experts, and cinema enthusiasts from across the world to celebrate excellence in these cinematic formats.

The opening ceremony was attended by several dignitaries including the Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Dr. L. Murugan, Chairman NFDC Shri G. Krishnakumar, Managing Director NFDC Shri Prakash Magdum, and Cultural Affairs and IT Minister of Maharashtra Shri Ashish Shelar. Notable film industry personalities in attendance included filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker, actor Jaideep Ahlawat, actress Sheena Chohan, and legendary filmmaker Kiran Shantaram, son of V Shantaram.
