Bloomberg Report on AI‑Powered Vishing Campaign

A wave of sophisticated cyberattacks employing artificial‑intelligence voice‑cloning technology has been directed at several of Wall Street’s most prominent money managers, according to Bloomberg sources speaking on condition of anonymity. The technique, known as "vishing," uses AI‑generated audio to mimic the exact voices, tones and phrasing of senior executives or colleagues, aiming to persuade employees to disclose sensitive information or grant network access.

The campaign targeted major hedge funds, specifically Two Sigma Investments, Citadel and Point72 Asset Management, as well as a number of unnamed private‑equity firms.

Two Sigma Investments – the $75 billion asset manager confirmed that its security team detected the vishing attempt promptly, neutralised the threat and reported no indication of any impact to its data or systems.

Citadel and Point72 – spokespeople for both firms declined to comment on whether their systems had been targeted or breached.

The incidents illustrate a broader surge in AI‑enabled fraud against professional‑service organisations over the past year, highlighting an escalating cybersecurity risk for financial institutions that rely on voice communications for operational processes.
