The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has initiated an investigation into an incident involving Air India Flight AI 2379, an Airbus A320 aircraft (registration VT-EXO) operating from Phuket to Delhi on August 4, 2026. During cruise flight, the aircraft experienced a sudden altitude variation of approximately 300 feet before stabilizing and landing safely at Delhi. The incident resulted in injuries to 20 passengers and 4 cabin crew members out of the total 137 passengers (including 3 infants) and 8 crew members (2 pilots and 6 cabin crew) on board.
The AAIB is conducting the investigation in accordance with applicable provisions and ICAO protocols, with requisite notifications made to ICAO and concerned states. The Bureau d'Enquêtes et d'Analyses pour la sécurité de l'aviation civile (BEA) of France, as the investigation authority of the concerned state, along with technical representatives of Airbus, is providing necessary technical assistance including relevant technical information and design documentation under the ICAO framework.
AAIB is currently engaged in systematic collection, preservation, and examination of all relevant technical, operational, medical, and human-factor evidence. This includes examination of the aircraft and its systems, recorded flight data, operational and maintenance records, medical information, and interviews with concerned persons. The investigation aims to determine circumstances and contributing factors and identify appropriate safety measures to prevent recurrence.
The investigation process is protected and confidential under applicable frameworks, with AAIB requesting media and public to refrain from drawing conclusions based on incomplete or unverified information. Preliminary findings will be issued within stipulated timeframe under ICAO protocols, with further information to be made public at appropriate stages of the investigation.
