Alphabet Added to Dow Jones Industrial Average

Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOGL) began trading as a constituent of the Dow Jones Industrial Average on Monday, June 23, 2026, after S&P Dow Jones Indices announced the change. The tech giant replaced Verizon Communications (NYSE:VZ), which had been one of the index’s least influential components due to its lower share price.

The market reacted positively, with Alphabet shares climbing 3.7% to close at $350.24. This price movement contributed to an approximate 11% gain for the stock year‑to‑date through Friday’s close, positioning Alphabet among the top performers within the Magnificent Seven technology group.

The inclusion broadens the Dow’s sectoral exposure to digital advertising, cloud computing and artificial intelligence. Alphabet now joins four other Magnificent Seven members already in the index—Nvidia Corp. (NASDAQ:NVDA), Amazon.com Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN), Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) and Microsoft Corp. (NASDAQ:MSFT).

Index funds that track the Dow Jones Industrial Average are required to purchase Alphabet shares to reflect the new composition. As of December 31, 2024, the Dow indexed approximately $115 billion in assets, compared with roughly $20 trillion for the S&P 500, where Alphabet already holds membership.

The most recent Dow reshuffle occurred in November 2024, when Nvidia and Sherwin‑Williams Co. (NYSE:SHW) replaced Intel Corp. (NASDAQ:INTC) and Dow Inc. (NYSE:DOW).
