Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Shri Amit Shah will preside over Police Commemoration Day observances at the National Police Memorial in New Delhi on October 21, 2026. The event commemorates the sacrifice of ten policemen killed in an ambush by heavily armed Chinese troops at Hot Springs, Ladakh on October 21, 1959, and honors all police personnel who have died in the line of duty since independence.

As part of the ceremonies, Shah will flag-off a nationwide motorcycle rally themed 'Fight Against Drugs' involving approximately 90 police riders from States/UTs (Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi), Central Armed Police Forces (CRPF, CISF, BSF, SSB, ITBP and NSG), and Central Police Organisations (RPF, NDRF and NIA). Participants from all states and central forces will converge at Ekta Nagar, Gujarat to join the Ekta Parade on October 31, 2026.

The National Police Memorial, dedicated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Police Commemoration Day-2018, comprises a 30-foot high granite monolith cenotaph representing strength and resilience, the Wall of Valour engraved with martyrs' names, and a museum showcasing the history of policing in India. The memorial is open to the public daily except Mondays, with CAPFs organizing band displays, parades, and retreat ceremonies every Saturday and Sunday evening.

Additional commemorative events will be held at the memorial from October 22-30, including visits by martyrs' family members, police band displays, motorcycle rallies, Run for Martyrs, blood donation camps, essay/painting competitions for children, and video film displays highlighting police sacrifice and valor. The main event will be telecast live on Doordarshan and webcast on police websites, with coverage by AIR and other media.
