Anant National University Mass Timber Workshop 2026
Anant National University, located in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, co‑hosted the Mass Timber Workshop 2026 on 24 and 25 September 2026 at its campus. The workshop was organized jointly with the US Softwood Export Council (SEC) and received support from the USDA Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) under the Regional Agricultural Promotion Program (RAPP).
The two‑day event convened a broad set of stakeholders—including academics, architects, industry representatives, and policy makers—to examine how mass timber can advance sustainable construction practices in India. Organisers highlighted the growing construction sector’s need for environmentally responsible building methods and positioned mass timber as a viable alternative to conventional materials, capable of reducing carbon footprints and supporting climate‑conscious design.
During the workshop, participants engaged in panel discussions, knowledge‑sharing sessions, and practical engagements that explored the material’s technical properties, supply‑chain considerations, and regulatory landscape. The programme also featured a site visit by Anant students to India’s landmark mass timber project in Umargam, Gujarat, providing firsthand exposure to real‑world applications of the technology.
Anant National University underscored its commitment to sustainability through its educational philosophy, which emphasizes climate‑responsive architecture, interdisciplinary research, and hands‑on community engagement. The university offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programmes across design, architecture, climate action, and visual arts, integrating studio‑based learning with emerging technologies and Indigenous Knowledge Systems.
The institution has been recognised as a Centre of Excellence by the Government of Gujarat and earned a 5‑Star rating in Architecture and a 4‑Star rating in the University category under the Gujarat State Institutional Rating Framework (GSIRF) for 2023‑24, reflecting its focus on creativity, sustainability, and innovation.
