Union Minister of Women and Child Development Smt. Annpurna Devi has issued a public appeal urging citizens to adopt Indian handloom products and honor the country's weavers and artisans on the occasion of National Handloom Day. In a social media post on platform 'X', the Minister emphasized that India's handloom sector represents not just cloth but the foundation of Indian culture, traditions, and the livelihood security for lakhs of weaver families across the country.
The Minister specifically called upon citizens to respond to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi's appeal by sharing videos featuring their favorite handloom products on social media using the hashtag #NationalHandloomDay, aiming to transform the observance into a broader people's movement. Additionally, she urged the public to strengthen the Vocal for Local initiative by actively adopting Indian handloom products, thereby raising the pride and economic standing of domestic artisans. The message was disseminated through the Press Information Bureau on August 7, 2026, as part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations.
