The Embassy of India in Reykjavik, in collaboration with the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), organized the first-ever Indian mango promotion events in Iceland on June 24, 2026 in Reykjavik and June 25, 2026 in Akureyri. The events showcased four premium Indian mango varieties—Dasheri, Chausa, Langra, and Kesar—to demonstrate the rich diversity and export potential of Indian mangoes to the Icelandic market.

Ambassador R. Ravindra highlighted the unique qualities of India's world-renowned mango varieties and emphasized significant opportunities for expanding exports to Iceland. Mr. Sveinn K. Einarsson, Director of Trade Agreements at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Iceland, discussed how the India–EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA) could facilitate greater imports of Indian mangoes. Mr. Ólafur Stephensen, Secretary General of the Icelandic Federation of Trade, noted growing Icelandic business interest in India and promising prospects for increased agricultural imports, particularly mangoes.

Ms. Anisha Tomar, Second Secretary, delivered a presentation highlighting India's position as the world's largest mango producer and outlined government initiatives to promote exports through quality assurance, market access, and international promotion. The events attracted importers, diplomatic corps members, Icelandic business representatives, and officials from Iceland's Ministry for Foreign Affairs.

Market data revealed that Iceland imported mangoes worth approximately $3.3 million in 2025, with Thailand alone supplying about $1 million worth. Other suppliers include Brazil, Cambodia, Ghana, and Peru. Consumer interactions indicated that Icelanders enjoy mangoes in smoothies, desserts, and fruit salads, suggesting promising potential for Indian mangoes. The events served to strengthen commercial linkages, promote Indian agricultural exports, and deepen the economic partnership between India and Iceland.
