The Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, through the Babu Jagjivan Ram National Foundation, organized a homage ceremony to commemorate the 40th death anniversary of Babu Jagjivan Ram. The event took place at Samta Sthal, Delhi Gate, New Delhi, followed by a Sarva Dharam Prarthana at 6, Krishna Menon Marg, New Delhi.
The ceremony was attended by prominent dignitaries including Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Minister of Social Justice & Empowerment Dr. Virendra Kumar, former Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar, Minister of State B. L. Verma, Secretary of Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment Sudhansh Pant, senior ministry officials, foundation office bearers, Members of Parliament, and followers of Babu Jagjivan Ram.
The document highlights Babu Jagjivan Ram's legacy as an eminent freedom fighter, visionary statesman, and distinguished national leader who devoted his life to the upliftment of marginalized communities and advancement of social justice. During his 35-year tenure as Union Cabinet Minister, he made significant contributions to India's development, particularly as Union Minister for Food and Agriculture where he advanced the Green Revolution and strengthened food security, and as Defence Minister during the 1971 Indo-Pak War where his leadership contributed to India's victory and the emergence of Bangladesh.
The Babu Jagjivan Ram National Foundation reaffirmed its commitment to carrying forward his ideals of nation-building, social justice, equality, and inclusive development.
