Banka Bihar Drug Rehabilitation Success Case Under NAPDDR Scheme
The Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment published a case study highlighting the successful rehabilitation journey of Bittu, a 28-year-old man from the OBC community in Banka, Bihar, under the National Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction (NAPDDR). The individual faced multiple socio-economic challenges that adversely affected his personal life, social relationships, daily functioning, emotional well-being, and overall stability.
Bittu received comprehensive rehabilitation support through the Drug De-Addiction Centre (DDAC) in Banka, which provided detoxification, medical treatment, individual counselling, psychoeducation sessions, family counselling and support, motivation enhancement interventions for behavioural changes, regular follow-up, and relapse prevention support. The intervention helped develop motivation towards recovery and encouraged positive behavioural changes through emotional and psychological counselling combined with family guidance.
At present, Bittu is in the recovery phase and regularly attends counselling and follow-up sessions at the DDAC Centre, showing gradual improvement and consistent efforts toward maintaining a healthy and stable lifestyle. Following treatment, he has demonstrated improvement in occupational functioning and income stability through his fruit-selling business, moving toward greater self-reliance while continuing his recovery journey.
The case study, released on September 29, 2026 (Release ID: 2316520), demonstrates how sustained rehabilitation, medical support, counselling, and family guidance can help individuals navigate difficult circumstances and take meaningful steps toward recovery, stability, and productive participation in society. The support provided through the DDAC under the NAPDDR Scheme has strengthened efforts to build a healthier and more stable future for beneficiaries.
