The Ministry of Finance has announced that all Public Sector Banks and Regional Rural Banks will remain open and function normally on Sunday, 27th September 2026, to ensure banking services remain accessible to the public. This decision comes in response to a proposed three-day nationwide bank strike called by the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) scheduled for September 28-30, 2026, which would have coincided with the preceding weekend holidays of September 26-27. The Reserve Bank of India has granted specific approval for all bank branches, offices, ATM-link branches, and Currency Chests to remain fully operational on September 27, 2026. The government emphasized that customer welfare and convenience are its foremost priority and noted that both government and bank managements have appealed to unions to defer the proposed strike while implementing measures to ensure essential banking services continue uninterrupted during this period.
