The Ministry of Defence has signed a contract worth approximately ₹770 crore with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) for the procurement of Improved Low Level Light Weight Radar (LLLR-I) systems for the Indian Army. The contract was signed on October 21, 2026, in New Delhi in the presence of Defence Secretary Shri Rajesh Kumar Singh.
The LLLR(I) system possesses advanced capabilities to detect and track fighter-sized targets as well as mini and micro drones, with additional functionality for prioritizing aerial targets. This enhanced radar technology will enable the Indian Army to effectively counter the threat posed by Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS).
This procurement aligns with the Government's Viksit Bharat @2047 vision and represents a significant step toward the indigenization of Air Defence platforms. The contract is expected to provide a substantial boost to India's Defence manufacturing ecosystem, particularly benefiting Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), while contributing to the development of a resilient, self-reliant, and globally competitive Defence Industry.
