Bharat Taxi Launch in Rajasthan
Rajasthan Chief Minister Shri Bhajanlal Sharma launched the 'Bharat Taxi' service in Rajasthan at a program held at the Harish Chandra Mathur Rajasthan State Institute of Public Administration in Jaipur. The initiative is part of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi's vision of 'Sahakar Se Samriddhi' and operates under the leadership of Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Shri Amit Shah.
Cooperative Model and National Statistics
The Bharat Taxi platform operates on a cooperative model where drivers (Sarathis) are members and shareholders of the cooperative institution, entitled to representation on the Board of Directors and a share in the institution's profits. Nationwide, the platform has nearly 8 lakh registered Sarathis and around 41 lakh registered customers. Approximately 11,000 trips are completed daily, with nearly Rs 77 crore deposited directly into Sarathis' accounts so far.
Rajasthan Implementation and Expansion
In Jaipur specifically, more than 30,000 Sarathis and nearly 7 lakh customers have joined Bharat Taxi, with thousands of trips completed daily. The service launch in Rajasthan follows previous expansions in Delhi, Gujarat, and Maharashtra. There are plans to extend this service to approximately 500 cities across India in the coming period.
Benefits and Features for Drivers
The cooperative model provides Sarathis with ownership, dignity, and participation in profits rather than being mere service providers. An accident insurance cover of Rs 5 lakh is provided under this initiative. The amount for every trip is credited directly to the Sarathi's account, ensuring that a major share of earnings remains with the drivers.
Rajasthan's Cooperative Sector Achievements
Rajasthan has approximately 42,000 cooperative societies with nearly 1.35 crore members. The state is a leader in implementing the world's largest grain storage scheme, having completed construction of 200 warehouses each during 2024-25 and 2025-26. Around 5,650 PACS have been converted into e-PACS, conducting more than 10 crore online transactions accounting for nearly one-third of India's total transactions. Approximately 4,900 PACS in the state engage in three or more businesses, while nearly 6,750 PACS have become members of the Bharatiya Beej Sahakari Samiti Limited.
Partnerships and Future Plans
Memoranda of Understanding were exchanged with Rajasthan Police, Saras, Jaipur Municipal Corporation, and Jaipur Metro for the expansion of Bharat Taxi and its coordination with various public services. Chief Minister Sharma flagged off a fleet comprising 60 cabs, 20 bikes, and 20 autos. The service will be expanded in a phased manner to different cities and tourism destinations across Rajasthan through cooperation with the state government, cooperative institutions, local bodies, and public service organizations.
Tourism and Economic Impact
The initiative is expected to create new employment opportunities for Rajasthan's youth and provide fresh impetus to the state's tourism and mobility sectors. Bharat Taxi is anticipated to play an important role in providing safe and reliable last-mile connectivity to passengers traveling to Jaipur Metro network, historic forts, palaces, lakes, wildlife sanctuaries, religious sites, and desert tourism destinations.
