Sahakar Taxi Cooperative Limited (STCL), established on 6 June 2025 and officially launched on 5 February 2026 under the Ministry of Cooperation, has introduced the Bharat Taxi cooperative-based mobility ecosystem. This represents a paradigm shift from the conventional driver-partner model to a Sarathi-owner model where drivers become members and owners of the cooperative society, participating in governance through Board representation and sharing in the cooperative's surplus.
The Bharat Taxi platform operates on a zero-commission model, enabling drivers to retain their full earnings while the cooperative's surplus is distributed among its Sarathi-members. The platform integrates cooperative ownership with technology-enabled ride-hailing services featuring transparent fare structures, real-time vehicle tracking, multilingual mobile interfaces, and 24/7 customer support, positioning itself as a homegrown alternative to investment-driven aggregator platforms.
Implementation is proceeding in a phased manner across the country, contingent on operational preparedness, Sarathi availability, completion of statutory requirements, and coordination with State Governments and cooperative institutions. The rollout includes registration and onboarding of Sarathis, customer enrolment, training programmes, and service expansion to identified cities and states.
As of the update, 7.76 lakh Sarathis (drivers) have been registered on the platform with completed document verification, and 40.84 lakh customers have been registered. Currently, Bharat Taxi is operational in cities of Delhi-NCR and Gujarat. The platform is distinct from Yatri Sathi, which is a State Government initiative operated by the Department of Information Technology and Electronics, Government of West Bengal for intra-state taxi aggregation services.
