Bitcoin Price Stability Amid Binance Hack Recovery

At 01:34 ET (05:34 GMT) on Saturday, Bitcoin was quoted at $77,175.4, representing a 1.71% decline but keeping the cryptocurrency above the $77,000 threshold following the record‑size $6.3 billion hack of Binance that unfolded late Thursday. Analysts from Cantor Fitzgerald, TD Cowen and Compass Point noted that the breach does not inherently jeopardise Bitcoin’s underlying protocol or the broader market’s rebound.

Binance’s Financial Response and Withdrawal Plan

Binance disclosed that it has set aside more than $6.34 billion of its own funds to cover the losses stemming from the hack. The exchange outlined a phased approach to reinstating user withdrawals after completing security checks. Additionally, Binance committed to publishing proof‑of‑reserves data on Monday, 2 November, to provide investors with an independent view of its financial position.

Hackers’ Asset Movement and Laundering Tactics

Blockchain analytics firm Chainalysis identified previously unseen laundering patterns across thousands of transactions, indicating that the attackers employed automated systems to obscure the stolen assets. The activity was linked to the North Korean hacking collective known as Tradertraitor, which had also been associated with the September 2026 Bitget breach. The perpetrators converted approximately $325 million worth of stablecoins into about $285 million of ether, apparently to move the value beyond the reach of issuer‑controlled freezes.

Analyst Perspectives on Market Implications

Cantor analyst Ramsey El‑Assal interpreted the weakness in cryptocurrency‑linked equities as a potential buying opportunity. Compass Point highlighted the $75,000‑$77,000 price corridor as a critical support zone for Bitcoin, warning that a sustained break below this range could undermine the recent recovery.

Tether’s Profitability and Reserve Strength

Stablecoin issuer Tether reported a third‑quarter operating profit of $1.5 billion, bringing its nine‑month cumulative profit to $4.5 billion. The company’s reserves stood at $191.5 billion, exceeding its liabilities by roughly $8 billion, underscoring the substantial financial resources available within the stablecoin sector amid heightened regulatory scrutiny.
