Overview

Bitcoin hovered just under the $63,000 mark on Sunday, trading at $62,907.2 and slipping 0.4% by 18:12 ET (22:12 GMT). The price oscillated within a narrow band of $62,805.1 to $63,369.3 throughout the session.

Saylor's Commentary

Strategy Chairman Michael Saylor posted on X that Bitcoin should be understood as “digital monetary energy.” He argued that money is a technology for storing and transferring economic value created through labour, intelligence, time and natural resources, and that monetary systems should be judged by how well they preserve that value across time and distance. While gold historically fulfilled this role through durability and scarcity, its physical form incurs transportation, storage, authentication and custody costs. Fiat currencies improved portability but introduced political risks such as inflation, account restrictions and supply expansion controlled by governments and central banks. Bitcoin, according to Saylor, addresses both weaknesses with a fixed supply, a decentralized network and cryptographic ownership, and its proof‑of‑work system links digital property to physical energy by requiring miners to expend computing power to secure the network.

Bitcoin Supply Details

Approximately 20.07 million of the maximum 21 million Bitcoin have been mined, leaving roughly 929,465 BTC yet to be created. Programmed halvings will continue to slow issuance; the 2028 halving is expected to cut daily production from 450 BTC to 225 BTC. The final Bitcoin is projected to be mined around the year 2140, after which miners will rely increasingly on transaction fees for revenue.

Institutional Activity

UBS dramatically increased its exposure to Bitcoin call options tied to BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust, expanding the position more than 24‑fold to 1.95 million underlying shares, as reported by CoinDesk. The bank also raised its direct iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) holdings by 12% to 407,890 shares, while its put exposure fell 53%. Missing strike prices and expiration dates prevent a clear view of the net directional stance, and the trades could reflect client activity, hedging, or market‑making.

Binance Restriction

Binance announced that, effective 23 August, it will restrict transactions involving HTX and ten other crypto platforms for users in the United Kingdom and the European Union. HTX adviser Justin Sun stated that the exchange does not operate in those regions and will assist affected customers in resolving compliance reviews.

Altcoin Performance

Across the broader crypto market, altcoins mostly moved lower in line with Bitcoin’s tight trading range. Ether slipped 0.4% to $1,876.94, XRP fell 0.9%, Cardano dropped 0.6%, BNB declined 0.8%, and Solana decreased 1.5%. Among meme tokens, Dogecoin fell 0.4% and TRUMP lost 0.6%.
