The Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT), the premier telecom R&D centre of the Department of Telecommunications, has established its sixth Centre of Excellence through a Memorandum of Understanding with Indian Institute of Technology (BHU), Varanasi. This collaboration aims to create a dedicated platform for collaborative research, technology development, and capacity building in emerging communication technologies.
The CoE will specifically focus on advanced technologies including 5G Advanced/6G, Artificial Intelligence, Quantum Technologies, Cybersecurity, and Advanced Wireless Systems. The research scope covers very large-scale Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) systems, Integrated Sensing and Communication, AI-Native Communication Networks and devices, and Quantum and Post-Quantum Communication Technologies.
The initiative is designed to bridge academic research with real-world technology requirements while building a strong pipeline of skilled professionals for the telecommunications sector. It brings together researchers, faculty, students, and technology experts from both institutions to undertake joint research and promote sustained knowledge exchange.
The MoU was signed on October 23, 2026, in the presence of Dr. Pankaj Kumar Dalela, EVP of C-DOT, and Professor Amit Patra, Director of IIT (BHU), Varanasi, along with faculty members and senior officials from both organizations. This expansion brings C-DOT's national network of Centres of Excellence to six, building on existing collaborations with IIT Kanpur, IIT Gandhinagar, IIT Roorkee, IIT Hyderabad, and IISc Bengaluru through FSID.
