CAG-BHASHINI Anuvaad AI Translation Solution Launch
The Digital India BHASHINI Division (DIBD) under Digital India Corporation, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, in collaboration with the Office of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG), launched "CAG-BHASHINI Anuvaad" on September 30, 2026. This AI-enabled document translation solution is designed to support the translation of official CAG documents and audit-related reports, marking a significant step in integrating Language AI into institutional workflows.
The solution was launched during the closing ceremony of the 74th Hindi Diwas and Hindi Pakhwada 2026 at the CAG Office in New Delhi. The event was attended by Comptroller and Auditor General of India Shri K. Sanjay Murthy, along with senior officials including Deputy Comptroller and Auditor General Shri A. M. Bajaj, Additional Deputy Comptroller and Auditor General Dr. Nilotpal Goswami, and Director General Shri Atoorva Sinha.
Technical Capabilities and Institutional Integration
CAG-BHASHINI Anuvaad has been developed as a customized Language AI solution focusing on consistent terminology, contextual translation, and output quality. The solution provides an AI-enabled environment for document translation while addressing institutional requirements relating to security, controlled access, and data sovereignty. It is designed to complement existing institutional processes while maintaining appropriate human oversight.
BHASHINI's Language Capabilities and Scale
Shri Amitabh Nag, CEO of Digital India BHASHINI Division, highlighted that BHASHINI currently supports 36 Indian text languages, 23 Indian voice languages, and 35 international languages. The platform powers over 800 government websites, has enabled more than 9 billion cumulative AI inferences, and processes over 24 million AI inferences daily. Applications include multilingual agricultural advisory, voice-enabled grievance registration and processing, and conversational services accessible through voice and telephone-based interfaces.
Hindi Pakhwada Collaboration and Activities
The collaboration extended to the Hindi Pakhwada 2026 programme organized from September 14 to 29, 2026, which introduced technology-enabled language activities and games developed with BHASHINI. A large number of officers and employees participated in various competitions including official language usage, Hindi noting and drafting, translation, typing, and other language-based skills alongside BHASHINI-enabled activities. Winners were felicitated and awarded prizes during the closing ceremony.
Strategic Importance and Future Implications
Shri K. Sanjay Murthy emphasized the importance of ensuring audit findings and reports reach citizens in languages they understand, highlighting technology's potential to facilitate access to audit information in local and regional languages. Shri Nilotpal Goswami noted that the fusion of artificial intelligence and communication can overcome linguistic barriers across geographies, making communication more accessible, timely, and effective while strengthening the use of Indian languages in governance.
The initiative represents a broader collaboration to explore practical applications of Language AI in institutional settings, combining language technology, human expertise, and institutional requirements to support greater multilingual access to official information.
