The S&P/TSX Composite closed up 0.86%, reaching a new one‑month high on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
Gains were led by Consumer Discretionary, Materials and Information Technology sectors, with Avino Silver, NovaGold and Perpetua stocks jumping over 7%.
Energy and chemical stocks fell sharply, led by Vermilion Energy, Canadian Natural Resources and Methanex, each dropping about 7%.
The TSX 60 VIX fell 4.68% to 16.30, while gold rose 1.2% and crude oil slipped over 10%.
