Used‑car Brand Share Overview (2026)

Five manufacturers – Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Honda, Tata Motors and Mahindra & Mahindra – together accounted for 75.5 % of all used‑car transactions recorded on Cars24’s organised resale platform up to July 2026.

Maruti Suzuki

Maruti Suzuki led the market with a 33.2 % share of total used‑car sales. Its three best‑selling models – the Swift (14.5 % of Maruti’s sales), the Wagon R 1.0 (10.2 %) and the Swift Dzire (8.1 %) – together contributed 32.8 % of the brand’s volume, indicating a relatively broad model mix. The Swift was also the single most popular used car across all brands, representing 4.8 % of total transactions.

Hyundai

Hyundai held a 21.6 % share. The i10 accounted for 15.4 % of Hyundai’s used‑car sales and the Grand i10 for 12.5 %. The Creta contributed 9.7 % of Hyundai’s volume and was the only SUV among the brand’s top three models.

Honda

Honda’s share was 8.2 %. The City model dominated with 41.1 % of Honda’s used‑car sales, the Amaze contributed 22.1 % and the Jazz 9.6 %. The City alone represented 3.4 % of all used‑car transactions, making it the best‑selling used sedan.

Tata Motors

Tata Motors captured 7.8 % of the market. The Tiago contributed 23.1 % and the Nexon 20.7 % of Tata’s used‑car sales, together accounting for 43.8 % of the brand’s volume. The Altroz added 9.1 %.

Mahindra & Mahindra

Mahindra’s share was the smallest at 4.7 %, and its portfolio was heavily SUV‑centric. The XUV500 led with 29.4 % of Mahindra’s used‑car sales, followed by the XUV300 (10.8 %) and the Scorpio (10.4 %). Despite the XUV500’s discontinuation in 2021, it remains popular in the used market, especially among buyers seeking a seven‑seater diesel vehicle.

Fuel and Transmission Trends

Petrol‑powered cars from Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai together comprised 54.8 % of all used‑car sales, reflecting the dominance of petrol in the segment. Manual transmission remained the default choice, with more than 92 % of i10 buyers opting for a manual gearbox.

Concentration Insight

Across the five brands, model concentration varies: Honda placed 72.8 % of its sales in three models, whereas Maruti Suzuki’s top three accounted for only 32.8 % of its volume. Hatchbacks dominate most brand line‑ups, with sedans leading only for Honda and SUVs for Mahindra.
