Announcement
ChargePoint Holdings Inc (NYSE:CHPT) saw its shares increase by 5.8% after the company announced that it would be added to the Russell 2000 Index, effective 29 June 2026.
Index Inclusion Details
The addition forms part of the 2026 Russell indexes reconstitution. As a result of the reconstitution, ChargePoint will also be automatically included in the corresponding Russell growth and value indexes that track similar market segments.
Russell indexes are widely used by investment managers and institutional investors for both passive index funds and as benchmarks for active strategies. Data as of the end of June 2025 indicate that approximately $12.2 trillion of assets are benchmarked against the Russell US indexes, which are administered by FTSE Russell.
Inclusion in the Russell 2000, which tracks U.S. small‑cap stocks, typically triggers buying pressure because index funds and exchange‑traded funds that replicate the benchmark must adjust their holdings to reflect the new composition.
Company Profile
ChargePoint provides electric‑vehicle charging solutions to drivers, charging‑station owners, and vehicle manufacturers across North America and Europe. The network connects users to more than 1.4 million public and private charging ports worldwide.
Market Impact
The combination of a 5.8% share price rise, the $12.2 trillion benchmarked asset base, and the automatic placement in growth and value indexes suggests that institutional demand for ChargePoint’s stock is likely to increase as fund managers rebalance their portfolios to match the revised Russell 2000 composition.
