The Ministry of Coal and Ministry of Mines jointly celebrated the 12th International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2026 with the theme 'Yoga for Healthy Ageing' at GPOA-3, Netaji Nagar, New Delhi. The event was organized to promote holistic health, mental well-being, and healthy lifestyle among officers and staff, reaffirming the government's commitment to wellness initiatives.
The yoga session was conducted by experts Ms. Nishu Bhandula Arora and Ms. Nishita from the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga, New Delhi, who guided participants through the Common Yoga Protocol including various asanas, pranayama, and meditation techniques aimed at enhancing physical fitness, improving flexibility, strengthening mental resilience, and fostering overall well-being.
Dr. Veena Kumari Dermal, Additional Secretary of Ministry of Mines, emphasized the importance of making yoga an integral part of daily life, particularly noting the impact of sedentary office work on physical and mental well-being. She highlighted that regular yoga practice helps improve posture, reduce stress, enhance concentration, and promote overall health.
Shri Sanjeev Kumar Kassi, Joint Secretary of Ministry of Coal, in his closing remarks, stressed that yoga is not just a one-day celebration but a lifelong practice that strengthens both body and mind. He urged participants to incorporate yoga into their daily routines and inspire others to do the same.
The program saw enthusiastic participation from officers and staff of both ministries, reflecting their commitment to embracing wellness as an integral part of professional and personal life.
