Coal loading to the power sector has shown a consistent upward trend over a four-day period from September 3 to September 6, 2026, with daily rake loading increasing from 370 rakes to 444 rakes, representing a net addition of 74 rakes per day and a 20% cumulative improvement. The improvement was particularly notable on September 6, 2026, which saw a single-day increase of 31 rakes, reflecting sustained efforts by Coal India Limited (CIL), its subsidiaries, SCCL, and captive mine operators to ramp up coal supply to power plants.

Company-wise performance on September 6, 2026 showed nearly every coal-producing company registered improvements: MCL recorded the sharpest single-day improvement with an increase of 12 rakes to 111 rakes per day, captive block loading rose by 6 rakes to 72 rakes per day, BCCL improved by 8 rakes to 25 rakes per day, NCL rose by 3 rakes to 35 rakes per day, and Private Washery & Goodsheds increased by 3 rakes to 42 rakes per day. CCL and SECL also registered gains of 2 and 1 rakes respectively, reaching 36 and 46 rakes per day, while ECL and WCL maintained their previous day's loading levels of 23 and 29 rakes per day respectively. This resulted in total CIL Siding loading rising to 305 rakes per day, an improvement of 26 rakes over the previous day.

The Ministry of Coal is actively monitoring critical thermal power plants with coal stock below 25% of normative requirements and has implemented corrective coal supply measures to further ease the position at these facilities. The Ministry and Coal India Limited remain committed to sustaining this improving trend in rake loading to meet the power sector's requirements.
