Cochin Shipyard Delivers Third Indigenous Anti-Submarine Warfare Craft to Indian Navy

Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) of Kochi delivered 'Mangrol', the third Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW SWC), to the Indian Navy on August 21, 2026. The vessel represents significant indigenous manufacturing achievement with over 80% indigenous content, aligning with the Government's 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat' vision for self-reliance in defence production.

The ship is specifically designed for underwater surveillance and Anti-Submarine Warfare operations in coastal waters, with additional capabilities for Low-Intensity Maritime Operations and mine warfare. It is propelled by waterjets and equipped with state-of-the-art weapon systems including torpedoes and anti-submarine rockets, along with advanced radar and sonar systems for detection and engagement.

The vessel derives its name from the coastal town and minor port of Mangrol in Gujarat's Junagadh district, which serves as a prominent harbor for the marine fishing industry. This naming continues the naval tradition of preserving distinguished warship names, as there was previously an INS Mangrol minesweeper that remained in service until 2004.

This delivery marks another significant milestone in the Indian Navy's indigenous shipbuilding program and demonstrates the growing strength of India's domestic defence manufacturing ecosystem. The project reinforces the strategic emphasis on developing domestic capabilities for naval defence infrastructure through public sector shipyards like Cochin Shipyard Limited.
