Defence Acquisition Council Approves ₹1.10 Lakh Crore Capital Proposals
The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), chaired by Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh, granted Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) for various defence acquisition proposals totaling approximately ₹1,10,000 crore on September 07, 2026. This in-principle administrative approval covers procurement for the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force with approximately 98% of procurements to be sourced from Indian industry.
For the Indian Army, approval was granted for Chemical Biological Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) Recce Vehicles capable of detecting, identifying, monitoring, and marking contaminated areas. The army will also receive High Mobility Vehicles (HMV) to enhance operational capabilities and mobility in challenging terrains, Self-Propelled Mechanical Mine Layers (MML) for fast minelaying in difficult terrains, Advanced Light Helicopters (ALHs) for complex missions across all terrains for both Army and Air Force, Trawl Tanks, and Sarvatra Bridge System to provide composite crossings to fighting formations during operations.
The Indian Navy received AoN for Arudhra Radars to replace existing Air Route Surveillance Radars at various Naval Air Stations, and for Design & Development and subsequent procurement of Marine Gas Turbines (MGT) as warship propulsion systems to reduce dependency on foreign vendors.
The Indian Air Force approval includes various proposals to enhance war-fighting capability of fighters, transports, and helicopters. Additionally, approval was granted for procuring Ground-Based Multi-Purpose Jammer (GBMPJ) to provide effective jamming against adversary radars and installing Defence Forces Secure Access Card (DEFSAC) System to replace existing paper-based Identity Card/Passes/Permits with interoperable Radio Frequency Identification-based smart cards system.
