Defence Minister Rajnath Singh presided over the flag-in ceremony for a historic mountaineering expedition that successfully summited 20 previously unclimbed peaks above 6,000 meters in the Ladakh region. The expedition, completed in just 23 days, marked the first-ever recorded ascents of these peaks located in the Chamser-Lungser, Gyama Nala and Chokula areas of the Ladakh Range.
The climbing team consisted of 20 highly skilled mountaineers from the National Institute of Mountaineering and Adventure Sports (NIMAS) in Dirang, led by expedition leader Col Ranveer Singh Jamwal. During the ceremony held at Kartavya Bhavan-2 in New Delhi, the Raksha Mantri commended the team's courage and determination, describing their achievement as a demonstration of India's mountaineering excellence and leadership in adventure sports.
The Defence Minister noted that the successful ascents set new benchmarks and would serve as inspiration for young mountaineers across the country to pursue adventure and exploration activities. The expedition showcased exceptional planning, technical expertise, endurance and teamwork, reflecting the nation's capabilities in high-altitude mountaineering and strengthening India's presence on the global mountaineering map.
The event was organized to promote the spirit of adventure and exploration in high-altitude frontiers and inspire future generations of mountaineers.
