The Department of Food and Public Distribution (DFPD), Government of India, along with its Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs), attached and subordinate offices, has commenced the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva-2026’ campaign across the country starting September 17, 2026. The campaign is being undertaken in accordance with the guidelines of the Department of Urban Development and the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation, with a focus on cleanliness and sanitation under the theme ‘Swachhata Mein Sahbhag, Swachh Bharat, Viksit Bharat’.

Key activities included the administration of Swachhata pledges across all organizations. Shri Sanjeev Chopra, Secretary, Department of Food and Public Distribution, administered the pledge to officials on September 17, 2026 at Krishi Bhawan, New Delhi, followed by a cleanliness drive. The Department organized a slogan competition on Swachhata on September 18 and conducted a workshop for Safai Mitras focusing on their wellbeing, health, and social security - one of the six pillars of the campaign - informing them about government welfare schemes.

Participating organizations included Central Warehousing Corporation (CWC), which organized cleanliness and beautification drives at Mayur Vihar, Delhi on September 19-20 and a painting competition at Veer Chand Singh Garhwali Sarvodaya Bal Vidyalaya on September 18. The Indian Grain Storage Management and Research Institute (IGMRI) and its field stations conducted various activities including pledge ceremonies, cleanliness drives, art competitions at government schools, and Jal Sanchay Samvad (water conservation dialogue) programs.

The Food Corporation of India (FCI) commenced the campaign on September 17 across its Headquarters, Regional and District Offices and depots with administration of Swachhata pledge and display of campaign banners. A comprehensive health check-up camp was organized on September 18 at FCI Headquarters, New Delhi, and various FCI offices and depots for Safai Mitras and their families, with similar medical camps organized at Regional Offices including Haryana, Bhopal, Odisha, NEF, Telangana, and Dharmshala.

The Quality Control Cell (QCC) offices organized oath-taking ceremonies, banner displays and weekly cleanliness pledges on September 17 under Pillar-2: ‘Swachh Paathshala – Yuva for Swachhata’, followed by staff and public sensitization activities on September 18 at locations including Bhubaneswar and Lucknow. The National Sugar Institute (NSI), Kanpur, also participated with the Director administering the Swachhata pledge to officials on September 17.

The collective efforts aim to strengthen a culture of cleanliness and contribute to the vision of a Swachh Bharat and Viksit Bharat, with continued activities focusing on sustainable cleanliness practices and the dignity, health and wellbeing of sanitation workers during the campaign period.
