Union Health Minister Shri J.P. Nadda conducted a comprehensive review of healthcare services and infrastructure development at Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Medical Sciences (ABVIMS) and Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in New Delhi. The review focused on patient care, specialized services, service delivery, and infrastructure development, with particular emphasis on the hospital's achievements and upcoming projects.

During the review meeting, the hospital presented its clinical services, medical education, research activities, and quality improvement initiatives. The institution recorded substantial patient volumes in 2025, including 19.4 lakh outpatient visits, over 82,500 inpatient admissions, and more than 96,600 surgeries and procedures. The hospital currently maintains 30 clinical and patient-care departments along with eight pre-clinical and para-clinical departments.

A significant achievement highlighted was the hospital's full National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers (NABH) accreditation obtained in 2025, making it the first Central Government multi-specialty hospital to achieve this distinction. Quality improvement measures include strengthened registration and triage processes, clinical and prescription audits, incident reporting, adverse drug reaction reporting, and patient feedback mechanisms.

The hospital has expanded access to services by increasing Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) kiosks from one to three, resulting in increased utilization with PM-JAY pre-authorization requests rising from 549 in 2022 to 1,516 in 2025. Academically, the institution has contributed over 2,200 research publications and has developed a Viksit Bharat 2047 roadmap focusing on digital patient-centric care, stronger specialized services, expanded community outreach through satellite clinics, AI-enabled monitoring, and environmentally sustainable healthcare infrastructure.

Minister Nadda emphasized the importance of leveraging expertise from leading institutions when planning major healthcare infrastructure projects and called for stronger implementation of the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) at Dr. RML Hospital. This includes ABDM compliance and wider adoption of e-prescriptions and other digital health services to improve patient care and service delivery.

The Minister also stressed the need to prioritize mental well-being of students and faculty, highlighting the impact of stress on academic and professional life. He called for supportive interpersonal relationships, open communication, and sustained mental health support. The hospital regularly conducts mental health screenings for students and health check-ups for faculty members, with the Minister encouraging implementation of Project SAARTHI at the institution.

Additionally, the Minister reviewed activities undertaken under Special Campaign 6, emphasizing the institutionalization of Swachhata, minimization of pendency, efficient record management, and maintenance of a clean, hygienic, and patient-friendly healthcare environment.

The review meeting was attended by Smt. Punya Salila Srivastava, Secretary, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare; Shri L.G. Krishna, Director General of Health Services (DGHS); Smt. G. S. Chitra, Joint Secretary (Health); Dr. Akhilandeswari Prasad, Director, ABVIMS and Dr. RML Hospital; Dr. (Prof.) Vivek Dewan, Medical Superintendent, Dr. RML Hospital; and other officials and faculty members.
