Eni CEO Claudio Descalzi urged the EU to rethink its plan to ban Russian gas imports starting 2027, citing supply concerns.
Descalzi highlighted the difficulty of replacing 20 billion cubic metres of Russian gas, which provides essential flexibility to power stations.
He noted the Iran conflict as the most significant energy‑supply disruption event in the past four decades.
The EU also plans to ban Russian LNG imports on short‑term contracts from 25 April 2026 and long‑term contracts from 1 January 2027.
