India's National Telemedicine Service, eSanjeevani, has achieved a significant milestone by crossing 50 crore (500 million) cumulative teleconsultations as of September 15, 2026. This represents the world's largest telemedicine implementation in primary healthcare, serving all 36 States and Union Territories with a total of 50,00,92,730 consultations recorded. The platform currently supports more than 1.42 lakh Ayushman Arogya Mandir spokes, 19,473 medical hubs, and 901 online OPDs, with 2,41,923 registered healthcare providers facilitating approximately 2.5–3 lakh consultations daily across 15 languages, including English and 14 Indian languages.
Demographic analysis reveals that women account for 57.14% of total platform utilization, while 40.15% of consultations are availed by citizens aged 46 years and above, including 16.25% by senior citizens aged 60 years and above. The platform's highest single-day utilization reached 6,30,315 consultations, demonstrating growing public acceptance of telemedicine services.
The platform has integrated advanced technologies including an Artificial Intelligence-powered Clinical Decision Support System (AI-CDSS) that supports healthcare providers during consultations and strengthens clinical decision-making quality, which received the Gold Award under the National Awards for e-Governance 2026. eSanjeevani has also been integrated with the Emergency Response Support System (ERSS)-112 to enable stronger linkages between emergency response services and remote medical expertise.
Beyond primary healthcare, eSanjeevani is expanding to facilitate specialist OPD consultations through premier government medical institutions, with patient-to-doctor teleconsultation services already rolled out at AIIMS Jodhpur, AIIMS Jammu, and AIIMS Patna. The initiative is planned for progressive expansion to other premier government institutions including AIIMS, JIPMER, and PGIMER Chandigarh.
Developed as a Made-in-India digital health solution by the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), with C-DAC Mohali providing end-to-end technological development, the platform operates under the guidance of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The achievement aligns with the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative and represents significant progress in India's digital health infrastructure development.
