ESIC's Healthcare and Medical Education Infrastructure Expansion
The Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) has significantly contributed to India's medical education and healthcare infrastructure as part of the nation's progress toward Viksit Bharat. The corporation operates an extensive network comprising 169 hospitals, 1,603 dispensaries, and 65 Regional/Sub-Regional Offices, with the ESI Scheme currently implemented in 728 out of 787 districts across the country.
Medical Education Capacity and Output
ESIC's medical education infrastructure includes 17 operational medical colleges offering undergraduate courses with 1,550 MBBS seats and postgraduate courses including 559 MD/MS seats, 182 DNB seats, 17 DrNB seats, 31 DM/M.Ch seats, and 10 PhD seats. Additionally, the corporation operates 2 dental colleges offering 124 seats, 2 nursing colleges with 120 BSc Nursing seats, and 3 paramedical colleges providing 292 seats. Three state-run medical colleges further contribute 330 MBBS seats to the system.

At the postgraduate level, more than 1,200 students have passed out, strengthening the country's pool of specialized doctors.
Ward of Insured Persons Quota System
Through the 'Ward of Insured Persons (IP) Quota', ESIC reserves approximately 880 seats across its medical institutions for children of workers covered under the ESI Scheme.
