The Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) achieved significant enrollment growth through its Scheme to Promote Registration of Employers/Employees (SPREE 2025), which ran from July 2025 to January 2026. The scheme provided a one-time opportunity for employers and employees in organised sectors who may have been inadvertently left out from ESI coverage to register without concern for retrospective coverage or punitive action. This initiative resulted in the addition of 1,38,718 new employers and 1,12,72,772 (1.12 crore) new employees by January 31, 2026.
ESIC has undertaken comprehensive healthcare infrastructure enhancements across the country to improve access to quality medical services and strengthen social security benefits for ESI beneficiaries. Key initiatives include enhancement of bed strength, procurement of advanced medical equipment, establishment of ICU/HDU facilities, and operationalization of new hospitals and dispensaries. The corporation has also empaneled private and super-specialty hospitals to expand service availability.
Digital transformation efforts include upgradation of digital platforms for OPD appointments, implementation of Aadhaar-based authentication for delivery of benefits, and enabling online submission of cash benefit claims. ESIC has collaborated with Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) to provide secondary and tertiary healthcare services in areas where ESIC facilities are not adequately available.
Recent hospital operationalizations and upgrades include facilities at Ompora (Jammu & Kashmir), Doddaballapur (Karnataka), Sriperumbudur (Tamil Nadu), Surat (Gujarat), with expansions at Sanath Nagar (Telangana), Beltola (Assam), and Rajamahendravaram (Andhra Pradesh). This information was formally presented by Union Minister of State for Labour & Employment, Sushri Shobha Karandlaje, in a written reply to the Lok Sabha on July 27, 2026.
