EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced plans to regulate addictive design features on TikTok and Instagram later this year.
Proposed rules target endless scrolling, autoplay, push notifications and require age verification to block under‑13 users on Meta platforms.
EU is also investigating harmful content exposure to children, such as eating‑disorder and self‑harm videos, and examining Meta’s age‑policy compliance.
A legal proposal is expected by summer after advice from the Special Panel of experts on Child Safety Online.
