Wheat Price Movement

Euronext September wheat futures slipped 0.3% to €202.25 per metric ton (US$231.09) at 1621 GMT on Monday, trading near a one‑week low.

Market Context

Traders balanced the risk of yield losses from a record heatwave in France against expectations of a large harvest from the Black Sea export region, concluding that French wheat crops would likely suffer less damage than maize. The anticipated high production volumes from the Black Sea were expected to offset any French shortfall, curbing the earlier four‑week rally that had pushed wheat to a peak on Wednesday.

Maize futures rose to new contract highs as forecasts of warm, dry weather in early July threatened to add further stress to French crops already impacted by last week’s extreme heat. In the United States, Chicago wheat prices fell as market participants adjusted positions ahead of the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s acreage and stocks reports scheduled for release on Tuesday, data that are closely monitored by grain traders.
