FPIs AUC Report – 15 July 2026

Date: 21 July 2026

Coverage period: 30 June 2026 – 15 July 2026 (mid‑month snapshots)

The NSDL report provides a sector‑wise snapshot of Foreign Portfolio Investors’ (FPIs) Assets Under Custody (AUC) and net investment in Indian securities. As of 30 June 2026 the total AUC stood at ₹68.65 Lakh crore (≈ $94.6 bn). By 15 July 2026 the AUC had risen to ₹77.35 Lakh crore (≈ $96.2 bn), reflecting fresh inflows of comparable magnitude to the existing stock. Net investment recorded for the first half of July 2026 was $96.2 bn, identical to the AUC figure, indicating that the new capital largely replaced the previous holdings rather than creating a surplus.

Sector‑wise AUC (₹ crore)

  • Financial Services: ₹21,65,085 (equity) + ₹2,22,248 (Debt‑General) + ₹1,377 (Debt‑VRR) + ₹1,337 (Debt‑FAR) = ₹21.65 Lakh cr – the single largest sector holding.
  • Power: ₹2,73,542 (equity) + ₹3,217 (Debt‑General) + ₹400 (Debt‑VRR) + ₹5,176 (Hybrid) = ₹2.86 Lakh cr.
  • Others: ₹8,03,946 (equity) + ₹7,23,968 (Debt‑General) + ₹21,432 (Debt‑VRR) + ₹17,140 (Debt‑FAR) = ₹8.04 Lakh cr.

Methodology Notes

  • The report uses the RBI end‑of‑period reference rate for converting INR‑denominated AUC and net‑investment figures to USD. The conversion yields $94.6 bn for the 30 June snapshot and $96.2 bn for the 15 July snapshot.
  • Inclusion dates for FPIs in specific segments: Debt‑VRR data incorporated from 30 April 2020, Debt‑FAR, Mutual Funds and AIF data from 31 August 2024, with net‑investment figures for these segments effective from 15 September 2024.
  • The sector classification follows the BSE Common Industry Classification (CIC) adopted by NSE and BSE as of 21 March 2022; any issuer not mapped to the 4,800 listed issuers falls under the “Others” bucket.

Observations

  • FPIs continued to expand their Indian holdings, with AUC growing by ≈ ₹8.7 Lakh cr (≈ 12.7 %) over a two‑week window, signalling sustained confidence in Indian equity and debt markets.
  • The Financial Services sector remains the dominant recipient of FPI capital, accounting for ~28 % of total AUC.
  • Debt holdings in the “Others” category are highly concentrated: the top two debt holders (Porteast Investment and Manipal Hospitals) together represent ~48 % of the category’s ₹53.3 cr debt AUC.
  • Net‑investment matching the AUC suggests that the inflows were largely reinvestments rather than net new capital, indicating a rotation within existing FPI portfolios.
