Ontario County Public Health launched investigation into a suspected hantavirus case involving a Geneva High School student.
Superintendent Bo Wright said no evidence of risk to other students or staff and they are following health department guidance.
Public health director Kate Ott noted hantavirus spreads from mice to humans, not person‑to‑person, and the patient will not need quarantine.
The case is unrelated to the recent Dutch cruise ship outbreak that killed three and sickened at least eleven others.
