Union Minister Shri Shripad Yesso Naik chaired the 6th meeting of the Group of Ministers to address the financial viability of power distribution utilities.
The meeting highlighted that while the sector is now profitable, half of distribution utilities remain loss-making, burdened by debt and operational inefficiencies.
Key reforms proposed include cost-reflective tariffs, debt restructuring, and operational efficiency through smart metering and digitalization.
