The Ministry of Electronics & IT has scaled up the CyberShakti programme following the recommendation of the 2026 Standing Committee Report on the Empowerment of Women. The programme was originally approved for a two-year period starting October 2024 with the objective of enhancing cybersecurity awareness and strengthening cybersecurity skills among women government officials, and its second phase was recommended by the working group on Cyber Security in May 2026.
Since its inception in 2024, a total of 978 women government officials have been trained under the programme, including women police officers, cyber cell personnel, and officials dealing with victims of cybercrimes. The training was conducted through 2-week Virtual Instructor-Led Training (VILT) mode online programmes and one-week offline residential training programmes.
State-wise data shows Delhi leads with 249 trained officials, followed by Gujarat (81), Karnataka (73), Maharashtra (53), Haryana (42), Uttar Pradesh (45), Tamil Nadu (64), and other states with smaller numbers. Union Territories collectively trained 284 officials, with significant participation from Delhi. Additionally, 573 women participants have attended webinars aimed at sensitizing them toward the importance of cybersecurity.
