Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh launched the web portal for Special Swachhata Campaign 6.0, emphasizing the evolution of the cleanliness initiative from a basic program to a comprehensive whole-of-government and whole-of-nation movement. The campaign has generated ₹5,000 crore through scrap disposal over its five-year history while freeing 1,000 lakh square feet of office space, clearing approximately 2 crore files, and undertaking over 24 lakh cleanliness campaign sites. These achievements demonstrate the expansion beyond cleanliness to efficient resource utilization, pendency reduction, and waste-to-wealth conversion.
The campaign period runs annually from October 2 (Gandhi Jayanti) to October 31 (Sardar Patel Jayanti), serving as an annual reinforcement of cleanliness commitment rather than a limited-time activity. Special Campaign 6.0 will strengthen scientific waste management with particular emphasis on e-waste disposal compliance with e-waste management rules, featuring enhanced digital platforms for real-time monitoring during preparatory, implementation, and evaluation phases. The campaign has driven significant behavioral change in public littering awareness and transformed perceptions of waste's economic value while improving workplace discipline and file clearance efficiency through dashboard monitoring mechanisms.
