The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting organized a special lecture on September 28, 2026, on the occasion of Hindi Month, focusing on the role of Hindi journalism in communicating government schemes to the masses. The event featured Sudha Shrimali, Business Editor of Navbharat Times, who emphasized that Hindi journalism must act as an effective bridge in the journey of government schemes 'from file to field' by translating not just words but the spirit and objectives of schemes into simple language understandable by common citizens.
Shrimali stated that journalism's responsibility is to answer basic citizen questions about schemes: what the scheme is, who will benefit, eligibility criteria, and how to avail benefits. She cited the PM SVANidhi scheme as an example where headlines and presentation should immediately convey relevance and benefits to readers. She noted that alongside newspapers, audio programming, social media, and digital platforms now have enhanced capacity to disseminate government scheme information widely.
The Press Information Bureau's role was highlighted, with Director General Smita Vats Sharma explaining their efforts to curate data and information for journalists by attaching backgrounders to press releases, writing detailed photo captions, and sharing social media and live-streaming links. Sharma emphasized this helps journalists in far-flung areas grasp background context easily. Shrimali also addressed the role of AI in journalism, suggesting it should be embraced as an auxiliary tool for information analysis and distribution while maintaining that ultimate responsibility for truth and credibility remains with journalists.
The lecture positioned Hindi and digital media as having a key role in connecting the 'Viksit Bharat 2047' resolve with public participation through widespread understanding of Hindi and expanding digital reach. Officers and staff from Press Information Bureau and Central Bureau of Communication across the zone joined the lecture online, which was organized by PIB Mumbai under the guidance of Director General Smita Vats Sharma.
