The Department of Agricultural Research/Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) has been intensifying Special Campaign 6.0, a nationwide cleanliness and office improvement initiative across all its institutes. The campaign focuses on comprehensive cleanliness activities, sustainable waste management through segregation and responsible handling, reuse of usable materials, and extensive awareness activities involving staff, farmers, and local stakeholders.
Key activities include record management and digitization, plantation drives, environment-friendly practices, cleanliness campaigns in all branches nationwide, citizen-centric practices, scrap disposal, and electronic waste management. Institutes are continuously identifying and cleaning black spots in and around their premises, with officials conducting awareness camps about the value of swacchata (cleanliness).
The campaign has included free medical camps in several campuses and continued felicitation of safaimitras (cleanliness workers). Participation from all levels of officials has been noted both inside office premises and in outside campus areas. Extensive cleaning drives have been carried out in farms, fields, and roads surrounding the campuses, with particular attention given to separating metal and plastic waste from general waste to improve cleanliness and organization practices.
Specific improvements mentioned include clearing and organizing corridors for a cleaner working environment, promoting responsible waste management, and maintaining hygiene around workplaces. The campaign also emphasizes the 'waste to wealth' concept through sustainable practices. ICAR-CITH Srinagar is specifically mentioned as a participating institute with before-and-after cleaning results documented.
