Overview
Artificial Intelligence is reshaping the cybersecurity landscape, prompting a high‑stakes race between attackers and defenders. While organisations deploy AI to automate threat detection and enhance resilience, threat actors exploit the same technologies to launch sophisticated, large‑scale attacks. This convergence has created an urgent demand for professionals proficient in both cybersecurity and AI.
Talent Gap and Market Context
The 2024 (ISC)² Cybersecurity Workforce Study estimates a global shortfall of nearly 4.8 million cybersecurity professionals. In India, industry reports indicate more than 28,000 cybersecurity positions remain vacant, and 75 % of organisations report difficulties hiring skilled talent. IBM’s Cost of a Data Breach Report 2024 places the average global breach cost at USD 4.88 million, the highest on record. Concurrently, India’s cybersecurity market is expected to expand at a compound annual growth rate exceeding 18 % through the decade. Recent data show over 369 million malware detections across 8.44 million endpoints in the country, underscoring the scale of the challenge.
Programme Introduction
To address this emerging skills gap, IITM Pravartak has launched the Professional Certificate Programme in Cybersecurity and AI. The programme is designed to develop expertise across modern cyber defence, offensive security, AI‑driven threat detection, cloud security, digital forensics, and cybersecurity architecture.
Curriculum Highlights
- AI in Cybersecurity: Deep Learning and NLP for security, AI‑driven anomaly and malware detection, adversarial attacks, model robustness, AI integration with SIEM and SOAR, threat hunting using MITRE ATT&CK, and ethics/governance in AI security.
- Core Cybersecurity Skills: Ethical hacking, vulnerability assessment, penetration testing (VAPT), cloud security, SOC operations, digital forensics, incident response, and security architecture.
- Hands‑On Tool Exposure: Practical training on more than ten widely used tools, including Nmap, Metasploit, SEToolkit, OpenVAS, Nessus, Wireshark, and SQLMap.
- Certifications: Integrated CISSP training plus three IBM certifications – Generative AI Skills for Cybersecurity Professionals, Fundamentals of Encryption and Quantum‑Safe Techniques, and Cybersecurity Forensic Analysis and Incident Response.
Learning Methodology
The programme follows a blended learning model with weekly recorded video content and select masterclasses delivered by IITM Pravartak guest faculty. Live sessions led by domain experts reinforce concepts through hands‑on projects, real‑world case studies, and a comprehensive capstone project. Participants also have the option to attend a two‑day immersion at the IIT Madras Research Park for deeper engagement with the technology ecosystem.
Strategic Relevance
By combining deep security fundamentals with AI‑enabled defence capabilities, the programme equips professionals to manage cyber risk, governance, regulatory compliance, enterprise security architecture, and AI risk management—areas increasingly viewed as strategic business concerns rather than purely technical functions.
