The India Meteorological Department (IMD) conducted a training workshop on "Familiarisation of cyclone warning and marine weather services" on October 9, 2026, targeting stakeholders, disaster managers, and media representatives. Dr. Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, the Director General of Meteorology at IMD, delivered introductory remarks highlighting advances in cyclone forecasting, multi-agency coordination, and the crucial role of media in disseminating warnings to the last mile. IMD experts delivered presentations covering cyclone warning services and marine meteorological services, including various forecast products and warning bulletins specifically designed for coastal communities, fishermen, ports, and maritime stakeholders.
A key highlight of the workshop was the demonstration of the Cyclone & Marine Weather Services Decision Support System (DSS) for Public developed by IMD. This integrated platform supports timely decision-making by the public, stakeholders, and disaster managers, representing a significant advancement in weather service delivery infrastructure.
