A well-marked low-pressure area over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Odisha-West Bengal coasts is expected to move northwestwards across North Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal during the next two days, bringing enhanced rainfall activity with isolated heavy to very heavy falls over East & Northeast India, East Uttar Pradesh and Western Himalayan Region during the next 7 days. Past 24 hours weather data shows extremely heavy rainfall (≥21 cm) recorded over Odisha, specifically Banki receiving 21 cm. Very heavy rainfall (12-20 cm) was recorded over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Bihar, with Margherita in Tinsukia district and Matijuri in Hailakandi district receiving 16 cm each. Heavy rainfall (7-11 cm) was recorded over East Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Konkan, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Nagaland and Tripura.
Regional forecasts indicate widespread rainfall over Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim during July 16th-22nd, with isolated heavy rainfall likely over Bihar and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim during July 16th-17th and July 21st-22nd. Heavy to very heavy rainfall at few places with extremely heavy rainfall is expected at isolated places over Odisha on July 16th. The Northeast region will experience fairly widespread to widespread rainfall, while subdued rainfall activity is likely to continue over westcentral & south Peninsular India during next 7 days.
Heat wave conditions are very likely in isolated pockets over Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam and Rayalaseema on July 16th, and over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal during July 16th-17th. Fishermen are advised not to venture into Arabian Sea along and off Somalia, Oman, and most parts of west central adjoining some parts of south west Arabian Sea during July 16th to 21st, and along and off Gujarat Coast during July 18th to 21st.
