Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Australia resulted in 18 significant bilateral agreements spanning defense, energy, education, and cultural cooperation. The outcomes include the renewal of the Joint Declaration on Defense and Security Cooperation (JDDSC) identifying interoperability of forces, capacity building, maritime domain, defense industrial collaboration, cyber security, counter terrorism, HADR, and unified approach in UNCLOS, ASEAN, PIF, IORA as key areas. A Maritime Security Collaboration Roadmap (MSCR) was established to enhance information sharing, capability development, and operational coordination.
The visit finalized the Administrative Arrangement of the India-Australia Civil Nuclear Agreement signed in 2014, enabling uranium supply from Australia to India. The Australia-India Partnership for Cyber, Critical Technologies, Supply Chains (PACTS) aims to support national and regional security, promote resilient critical supply chains, and strengthen collaboration in critical technologies and digital resilience.
Several educational initiatives were announced, including a Centre of Excellence in Mining Equipment, Technology and Services at National Skill Training Institute, Bhubaneswar through an MoU between MSDE and TAFE Western Australia. Flinders University received approval to set up a campus in Bengaluru, while Victoria University received approval for a Gurugram campus. A Letter of Intent between NCVET and Australian Skills Quality Authority will strengthen vocational training regulatory frameworks.
In the energy sector, the Rooftop Solar Training Academy was operationalized at Pandit Deendayal Energy University, Gandhinagar, aiming to train 2000 women and youth as solar technicians/installers/helpers to support the PM Surya Ghar Yojana. Three Indian antiquities were repatriated: an 11th-12th century granite Nandi sculpture, an 11th century bronze trident, and a 12th century basalt six-headed Skanda sculpture.
Additional agreements include an MoU between Indian Coast Guard and Australia's Maritime Border Command for maritime law enforcement cooperation, deployment of an Indian military instructor in Australian Defense College for 2028-29, and multiple research collaborations between CSIR and Australian institutions including University of Melbourne and IP Australia for Traditional Knowledge Digital Library access.
