The Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare has issued a clarification regarding reports of Nepal imposing a ban on Indian mango imports, stating these reports are factually incorrect and misleading. The Government of Nepal's Plant Quarantine and Pesticide Management Center confirmed on June 10, 2026, that no ban has been imposed, and imports continue to be permitted subject to prescribed phytosanitary requirements, with import permits and release orders being issued upon compliance and submission of valid phytosanitary certificates from the Indian government.
Indian mango exports to Nepal continue uninterrupted, with substantial volumes recorded. Since January 2026, a total of 149 consignments comprising 2,005 metric tons of mangoes have been exported to Nepal. Specifically during June 2026, 18 consignments totaling 266 metric tons have been exported so far.
While Nepal has recently revised certain import conditions, including the requirement for Hot Water Treatment (HWT), India continues to facilitate exports in compliance with these requirements. Simultaneously, India has conveyed concerns regarding the introduction of new phytosanitary measures without prior consultation and is pursuing the matter through appropriate bilateral channels in accordance with the WTO SPS Agreement and the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) framework.
The ministry advises stakeholders, traders, and the public to rely on official communications for information regarding import and export regulations and to disregard unverified reports about alleged trade restrictions on Indian mango exports to Nepal.
