Market Overview
India's equity markets closed lower on Friday, with the Nifty 50 slipping 0.12% at the close of trade and the BSE Sensex 30 declining 0.09%. The downward movement was driven by weakness in Fast Moving Consumer Goods, Healthcare and Public Sector Undertakings sectors.
Leading Gainers
The most notable contributors to the Nifty’s performance were Apollo Hospitals Enterprises Ltd, which rose 3.71% (319.00 points) to finish at 8,919.00; Bharti Airtel Ltd, which added 2.73% (52.90 points) to end at 1,992.00; and Adani Enterprises Ltd, which gained 2.53% (75.10 points) to close at 3,040.00 in late trade. On the BSE, Bharti Airtel also rose 2.53% to 1,992.00, while Adani Port and Special Economic Zone Ltd advanced 1.82% to settle at 1,695.00 and IndusInd Bank Ltd increased 0.91% to close at 1,032.00.
Leading Losers
Among the biggest decliners on the Nifty were Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd, which fell 4.46% (15.60 points) to trade at 334.00 in late trade; Jio Financial Services Ltd, which dropped 2.19% (5.60 points) to end at 250.00; and Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd, down 1.90% (4.55 points) to 235.35. On the BSE, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd was down 3.98% to 334.20, Asian Paints Ltd lost 1.69% to settle at 2,710.00, and NTPC Ltd slipped 1.19% to 341.00.
Market Breadth
Advancing stocks were outnumbered by declining stocks on both exchanges. On the NSE, 1,092 stocks advanced while 1,472 fell, with 53 unchanged. On the BSE, 1,826 stocks advanced, 2,187 declined and 182 remained unchanged.
Volatility Indicator
The India VIX, which measures implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, fell 1.09% to 11.29, marking a new six‑month low.
Commodity and Currency Movements
Gold Futures for December delivery decreased 0.31% (13.81 points) to $4,406.59 per troy ounce. Crude oil for September delivery rose 0.78% (0.63 dollars) to $81.88 a barrel, while the October Brent contract gained 0.31% (0.27 dollars) to $87.34 a barrel. The US Dollar Index Futures slipped 0.23% to 99.62.
Foreign Exchange
The Indian rupee edged higher against the US dollar, with USD/INR up 0.02% to 95.46, and against the euro, with EUR/INR rising 0.20% to 110.27.
