India will host the 11th BRICS Energy Ministers' Meeting on June 25-26, 2026 in Gurugram, Haryana, under its fourth BRICS Chairship following previous tenures in 2012, 2016 and 2021. The meeting brings together Energy Ministers and senior officials from all 11 BRICS member countries - Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, and the United Arab Emirates - which collectively represent nearly half of the world's population and approximately 40% of global GDP.

India's BRICS Chairship in 2026 operates under the overarching theme "Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability (BRICS)" with the Energy Track specifically adopting the theme "सर्वेषां ऊर्जम्" (Energy for All). The presidency has structured the BRICS Energy Agenda around three priorities: energy security and sustainability, energy access and equity, and technology and innovation.

The meeting provides India an opportunity to showcase its significant energy transformation progress, including expanding solar power capacity by more than 50 times over the past decade, deploying over 60 million smart meters, and setting an ambitious target of achieving 410 GWh of energy storage capacity by 2032. India has also undertaken major reforms to strengthen power transmission and distribution infrastructure, expanded its national transmission network for renewable energy integration, accelerated Green Energy Corridor development, rolled out the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), and promoted regional grid interconnections through the One Sun One World One Grid (OSOWOG) initiative.

In biofuels, India has achieved 20% ethanol blending and recently rolled out E85 fuel containing 80-85% ethanol. The country has also emerged as a global clean energy advocate through initiatives like the International Solar Alliance and Global Biofuels Alliance.

Preparatory activities included three virtual meetings of Senior Energy Officials and two virtual seminars on 'Role of Artificial Intelligence in the Energy Sector' and 'Advancements in Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS) Technologies'. The scheduled program includes the Fourth Meeting of the BRICS Committee of Senior Energy Officials on June 22-24, 2026, side events on clean coal technologies and raising electrical appliance standards, the main Energy Ministers' Meeting on June 25-26, and a virtual BRICS Youth Energy Summit on August 17-18, 2026.
